About
Sapient Nutrition is a comprehensive dietary resource and system of eating currently being formulated by Rebecca E. Webber to heal and sustain all humans, especially those of us with food sensitivities and illnesses stemming from inflammation. Webber is working to share her findings with the world from two sides - what we are eating (diet) and how we access those ingredients (sourcing).
Sapient Nutrition was inspired by Webber’s research into the connection between modern preventable illness, prevalence of prescription drug usage and the Standard American Diet (SAD) - research that was undertaken to heal her husband’s Junior Idiopathic Arthritis naturally. Webber formulated this nutrition plan by researching a variety of sources to meet all human nutrient intake needs while rejecting inflammatory foods. Our “New Americana” style menu aims to provide complete nutrition that is both smart and delicious. Humans on a Sapient Nutrition plan have the option of consuming up to ten percent sustainably sourced animal based foods if they so choose. It is entirely possible to get all you need from an exclusively plant based diet coupled with a few supplements, but different cultures and different people can make their own decisions about animal products while still eating an non-inflammatory diet. Whichever ingredients you choose, the key is to seek complete nutrition in a mindful way.
Billions of humans are currently experiencing malnutrition and while we develop strategies to help everyone feed themselves, we must also stay mindful of what everyone is eating. If we do not, we run the risk of replacing one crisis with another. Over consumption of Omega 6 LA coupled with underconsumption of Omega 3 DHA/EPA can lead to any number of life threatening health concerns associated with inflammation. The average Standard American Diet (SAD) is primarily composed of Omega 6 rich foods such as gluten, soy, commercial oils, factory farmed meat, dairy and other animal by-products. If the SAD continues to be disseminated globally, everyone will be as unhealthy as the average American. In contrast to the SAD, Sapient Nutrition is primarily plant-based and composed of sustainably sourced, predominantly globally accessible, low Omega 6 ingredients. This is the diet we need to share with everyone to achieve and maintain optimal global health starting from a new normal.
